Consumer Peer Support Worker
Sunshine Adult Acute Psychiatric Unit (SAAPU)
- Part Time Ongoing position based at Sunshine Hospital
- Work alongside the consumer during their admission and discharge
- Be an active collaborator, complementing the professional knowledge of clinical staff
- Work with current consumers and their families / carers providing peer support post discharge from the inpatient unit.
- Complete post discharge contact with consumers via phone or face to face meetings in the community
- Collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team to create the best plan of action for each inpatient
- Develop, review and provide information resources for consumers and their families
- Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with consumers, their families / carers and service staff
- Draw on your own lived / living experience in working alongside consumers
- Ability to work independently in an organised manner and take direction for daily activities
- An understanding of current Victorian mental health service systems of service delivery and issues, including clinical and community systems (e.g. MHCSS)
